Emergency Vehicles |
When you hear a siren or see flashing blue or red lights, it means a police car, fire truck, or ambulance needs to go somewhere fast. Pull over to the side of the road at your first opportunity and stop until the emergency vehicle passes. If you are in an intersection, finish going through it before you pull over and stop. Use extreme caution when re-entering traffic after the emergency vehicle has passed. |
If you pull over to the side of the road and a police car stops behind you, it means the police officer wants to talk to you. Stay in your car and wait for instructions from the officer. |
School Buses |

Parking Rules |
When you park on a flat surface, put your car in "park." If your car has a stick shift, put it in gear. Set the parking brake. In a parking lot or business district, lines on the pavement will show the parking space for each car. |
The closest distance that a vehicle may be parked from a stop sign is 30 feet. |
Parallel Parking |
When parking is allowed, you may park next to the curb on the same side of the street you are driving on. This is called parallel parking. Your front and back wheels should be within 18 inches of the curb or side of the street. Your front and back bumpers should be no closer than 2 feet (24 inches) from the car in front or behind you. |
Steps for parallel parking: 1. Check for traffic. Put your turn signal on. Stop even with the car ahead of the spot where you want to park, about 2 feet (60 cm) away. 2. Turn the wheel sharply to the right and slowly back toward the car behind the spot. 3. When clear of the car ahead, turn the wheel sharply to the left. Back slowly to the car behind. 4. Turn the wheel to the right. Move forward into the center of the parking space. |
